One of the cool things about Del McCoury is how he has always incorporated subtle touches of the blues and honky tonk into his mountain bluegrass. On 1993's A Deeper Shade of Blue the legend pushes those touches to the forefront. If you thought bluegrass was for teetotalers on Sunday afternoon, think again. Dig the laidback, behind-the-bait gait when Del tackles Jerry Lee's "What Made Milwaukee Famous?" He's both high lonsome and down n' dirty. One of the best bluegrass albums of the '90s. Easy.
