His first proper album since 1990, The Killer tills familiar ground on Mean Old Man. With a series of covers performed with such rock luminaries (and presumed worshippers of Jerry Lee) as Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger and Ringo Starr, he touches on the rock 'n' roll he invented (with Kid Rock doing a subtle Little Richard impersonation at one point), and concentrates on the country music that resurrected his career in the late '60s. Highlights include the woozy, brilliant "Sweet Virginia" with Keith Richards, a bumping "Whiskey River" with Willie Nelson, and "Middle Age Crazy" with Tim McGraw.
