The Smashing Pumpkins' debut established them as the preeminent college radio band of the early '90s. Not all of the songs on Gish work, but some of the group's finest moments ("Siva," "Crush," "Rhinoceros") are here. The 2011 deluxe edition contains a second disc full of outtakes, alternate mixes and demos of tracks Billy Corgan had originally intended to be part of the album. Hardcore fans will be giddy, because a lot of this stuff is previously unreleased. The acoustic-flavored "Seam" and "Jesus Is the Sun" are especially revealing in how they chart Corgan's roots in bluesy classic rock.
