The DEY

À propos de The DEY

Rappers Divine and Yeyo and singer Elan make up New York-based Latin urban trio The D.E.Y. The group made its debut in 2007 with the single "Give You the World," a song that includes both English and Spanish lyrics. Divine's musical career started on the streets of the South Bronx, where he collaborated with the Latin funk band Yerba Buena, cowriting the hit song "Guajira (I Love U 2 Much)." He moved to Puerto Rico in 1998 and began collaborating with Yeyo, who came from the island's underground hip-hop scene. They later met Elan Luz Rivera, a singer-songwriter and actress who attended New York's La Guardia High School, appeared with Ruben Blades in Paul Simon's ill-fated Capeman musical, and sang backup vocals with the influential salsa band DLG. The D.E.Y.'s music bridges the gap between English-only and Spanish-only Latinos with bilingual lyrics and beats that transcend any language.
