Whether you view Lady Gaga's retreat into the Great American Songbook with cynicism or support, the diva clearly needed a break from superstar popdom's demands. And who better an accompanist than crossover-adept Bennett? Both singers exude professionalism, if not much razzle-dazzle. Bennett's solo turn on "Sophisticated Lady" might be the weakest cut here, while Gaga impresses on a sultry "Lush Life." One might wish for smaller combo settings rather than the polite big band on display (and for more surprises from jazz's deep repertoire). But it sounds like both of these pros had fun.
