The third installment of this softcore-kink soundtrack series is once again loaded with gasped and panted songs of midnight seduction, usually on the trip-hop-whispered to neo-soul-belted continuum, most sung by mildly exotic if somewhat interchangeable divas who often tend to be British and in their 20s, hence providing a pragmatically unified and un-intrusive boudoir mood. Familiar contributors include Sia, Dua Lipa, Julia Michaels, Ellie Goulding and Jessie J, the latter of whom slows down James Brown’s “I Got You (I Feel Good)” to a breathy crawl; 25-year-old breakout Brit Bishop Briggs likewise imagines Adele covering INXS. Occasional males – slavering lupine Stevie Wonder fans the Spencer Lee Band, Swedish Philly-soul-falsetto fans Mike Snow, Nigerian-born lounge-blues growler Jacob Banks – aim for an earthier feel. But the early ‘90s house-pop-style “Come On Back” by Zimbabwe-raised Shungudzo exudes more fun than anybody here you’ve heard of. And if Juliette Armanet sounds like the sexiest chanteuse here, that may just be ‘cause she’s cooing in French.
