Yelawolf spent over three years working on Love Story, resulting in a marked improvement over 2011's Radioactive. His forays into country blues ("Devil in My Veins," "Have a Great Flight"), Everlast-styled rock ("American You") and country rap are heartfelt and organic. When he sings, he does so with emotional sincerity. What's missing is a standout that would bring his Slumerican ambitions into focus. He still has one of the most unique flows in rap, and it carries him a long way. "Call me a redneck, and I just tattoo it," he raps on "Whiskey in a Bottle." "I use it as therapy in music."
